A Time and A Place for Magic

Dissension will be out this Friday, so that means it’s time for another night of Magic at my place. This time the theme is Guild Wars with modified pre-constructed decks. That’s right, pick any guild from the block (Ravnica, Guildpact, Dissension), buy the pre-constructed deck, enhance it with three boosters of the set or sets of your choosing, and we’ll mash the results together in a group game. Your only constraint is that you must use only the two colors of your guild and only their guild artifacts, so no Rakdos Riteknife in your Boros deck.

Time: May 13 at 5pm
Place: My Place (in OP)
Bring: One pre-constructed deck and three boosters, plus a prize pack.

Collector’s Cache is a good place to buy boosters, you may want to shop around a bit for the deck. Collector’s will sometimes charge a bit extra depending on what’s inside it.

Also: I’m not likely to die in the next six years.

    fine find on that article
i do kinda wonder how you happened by that

the night of magic sounds good to me
a week before Mexico, if that happens

i read the contents of the new guild decks, i found it odd that there were only 2 rares per deck

I didn’t do all that much to find it; it was on the front page of Digg yesterday.

How many do they usually have?

  3. 3 CowDefender

well, i was comparing it to a comparably priced starter
starters have a third rare, but fewer uncommons

i’ve been forgetting about digg in favor of newsvine, i should probably be hitting both

the rarity thing makes sense, they’ve been trying to have the uncommons be the ‘back bone’ cards these days

digg does have the occasional good story.

the other bonus is getting a more focused pack of cards. you know that in some regard the cards will work together toward a common goal.

a deck that typically works straight from the pack is good
being able to see a new set’s theme working is cool

but i look back to both the snake, elf and the horrid super-bad Kamigawa deck i got, Sorotami’s Wisdom and i just can’t imagine it ever beating anything in a 2 out of 3. it had would good creature, Sorotami
the pre-cons seldom hold a candle to even my worst decks, like my pirate deck. they are cheap, though, and especially the Ravnica cycle decks can be easily improved with just a couple packs
    like in the plan

So my attendance is totally up in the air since I’m supposedly working another overnight on Friday from 9pm-9am, making it more a question of whether or not I’ll be awake from my 9:30ish morning bedtime. I’ll keep you posted.
