Thursday of last week, while driving to her parents house, Laura said, “You’re going back to school.”
The past few days have been an odd mixture of glee, confusion, and dread. School really is a good time, especially when taking classes in a field that is interesting. The confusion comes from dealing with the suddenness of Laura’s declaration, and trying to figure out what I’m supposed to be doing to make it happen. It seems a test must be taken to apply to these colleges, and prep time is short to make the next admission period. Dread sits on the periphery, that bit of self-doubt that needs to be squashed. I’ve decided to go for an MBA, though Computer Science and Strategic Communication are still tugging at me.
By my math, I have until the end of September to take the GMAT, start rounding up letters of recommendation from those I work with, write three essays, and mail it all in with the GMAT scores by November 1st to KU, and by March 1st to UMKC.

Tres interesting.
Tis curious timing, but exciting.
Are your financials such that she realized that you can go back to school?
Or, well, my mind wanders.
The second thought realizes how dangerous speculation could be.
It was that mayhaps she was thinking of having a child.
If that was her motive I admire her foresight that you finishing degree II before the child would be a good idea, and also it would show her restraint.
I bet you have more insight on these matters than I.
If this happens on the quickest time frame there will be no overlap between our degree IIs. But you’d likely have overlap with Sully.
Congratutainment!
It turned out to be a blend between degree before kid and a her desire for her to stay home with the kid when it arrives. I think it started when she decided she liked the name Gwendolyn. I liked the name Og.
I wish I were going back to school to get an MBA. Instead I’m back in school to get a lousy BA which will hopefully keep me from being SOL financially. I suppose I have to make the latter a reality before even considering taking on the Master.
Vorbis is a good middle name.
There go the Loefferts:
Laura, Hoj, Og and Gwendolyn.
My intuition should’ve been able to go that next step, the Laura wants to be a good mother part.
Curses.
It makes sense with the teacher thing.
Love of children probably would extend to her own.
She could raise her children without being annoyed by overlord, other parents or co-workers.
I’ve been happy with the lousy BA for some time now. It’s gotten me a job I enjoy, and the process to achieve it was fun. The MBA, while I’m sure is still somewhat fun to earn, will probably not be at all the same experience as the first degree.
Og Vorbis would be an excellent first/middle name combo. Hopefully the file format is long gone by then, but the kids are still aware it existed once. Like if one of us had been named Beta Max.
I can imagine Og Vorbis Loeffert going to third grade, and being assigned a new teacher, Beta Max Thompson.
BMT would share a special moment with Og.
It is pretty cool that you got a job you enjoy with a BA.
Let us hope I can do the same with my JD.
I better
